David Shillitoe, Film Scheme 2009
DAVID SHILLITOE
Archive Trainee
"Cyfle has been an invaluable experience for me so far, not just the things I have learned on the placements, but the contacts I have made and the opportunities that have opened up for me."
What were you doing before becoming a trainee on a Cyfle scheme?
I was working in industrial injury claims.
How did you hear about Cyfle?
I first heard about it in the job section of a local newspaper.
Please list the projects you have worked on and note who was involved in the production:
I have worked on:
- A documentary feature film with an independent film production company in London called Living Cinema;
- Two short films with other Cyfle trainees and Movie Mogul Films in Cardiff;
- Researching and sourcing archive material for many news items and documentary programmes for ITV Wales;
- Two archiving projects at BBC Wales involving old vinyl records and cataloguing news items.
Which aspects / elements of the work have you enjoyed the most?
I have really enjoyed working on the documentary and short films I have been involved in. It gives me a great sense of achievement when it all comes together and you feel that you have contributed to its success.
I have also really enjoyed conducting research and digging into things to find the images and information that enable the producers to tell a story.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I hope to be either working in Archive/Research or being creatively involved in the production of films and/or television.
Any further comments?
Keep up the good work!
