ON-THE-JOB TRAINING
Run in 2008-2009, this was a 12 month, paid, on-the-job training scheme for disabled people and individuals from black or minority ethnic backgrounds (BME).
The scheme was designed to meet a need to address under-representation in the TV sector. This need was identified in Skillset’s 2006 Employment Census.
It provided vocational training for:
- Two Trainee Assistant Editors (Althea Sutton and Lewis Monk)
- Four Production Trainees (Catrin Griffiths, Thomas Alcott, Vanessa Lu and Clare Lutwyche)
INDUCTION COURSE
The training started in December 2008 with a five week induction course with experienced producer Sue Jeffries. During this period, the trainees:
- Completed a practical film project – I Love Cardiff
- Received talks from industry professionals
- Completed the City & Guilds Induction Certificate for the Audiovisual Industries.
INDUSTRY PLACEMENTS
The rest of the training was vocational on placement with production companies and facility houses in Wales. These included Mwnci (Boomerang Group), BBC Wales, Green Bay, Wales Screen Commission, Film Agency for Wales, Iris Prize (Colonial Gods), We Want S Ltd (Dagenham Girls), and Living Cinema 001 Ltd (The British Guide to Showing Off).
OTHER BENEFITS
Trainees also received:
- Off-the-job, formal short courses
- Mentoring from industry professionals
- Exit programme
