The post will be based in the project office in Llandaff, Cardiff.  Actual days worked to be discussed with the Project Manager and consideration will be given to flexible working.

Delivered part-time over four months, this course teaches the tools to source, produce and deliver stories with imagination and style via workshops, masterclasses and mentoring.

PRODUCTION MANAGER TRAINING SCHEME

Using examples from TV Drama and Multimedia Production, this four month part-time course covers everything from using budgeting and scheduling software to the rules and regulations of shooting in the UK and abroad.

THE WORLD OF APPS

A series of standalone workshops to be held at various locations around Wales, detailing everything from content creation to how to make money from app development for smartphone and tablet devices.

LOCATION MANAGER TRAINING SCHEME

A three month part-time scheme that delivers a comprehensive guide to working within location management in television and multimedia, combining workshops with interactive case studies covering development, pre-production and principal photography.

Starting early 2014

The Skills for the Digital Economy programme is backed with £2.7m from the European Social Fund (ESF) through the Welsh Government, with the rest of the funds provided by Welsh broadcaster S4C, the trade association for independent producers in film and television in Wales, Teledwyr Annibynnol Cymru (TAC) and Creative Skillset Cymru’

An Arts and Digital Media Event, 24 May 2013

From the early cavemen who shared stories of their hunts on cave walls to the bards regaling the land with tales of wonder and magical heroes.

Over the past hundred years, through the tools available to help us, we have seen unparalleled advances in the way we tell our stories.

From the early days of the moving picture, to the use of amazing lighting techniques in our theatres. From the use of sound to take us into a world beyond the pail to the burgeoning advances of Pepper’s Ghost through modern projectors’.

We have now entered a new world of storytelling enlightenment.  A new world which will be discussed, explored and experienced at an event which is dedicated to encouraging this new world of storytelling to blossom in Wales.

Create and Innovate, an Arts and Digital Media Event

Internationally recognised speakers who are leaders in their field and range from leading theatre producers to immersive game creators/writers to digital media artists, will be descending on Galeri, Caernarfon on the 24^th of May 2013 to participate in Create and Innovate, an Arts and Digital Media Event organised by Cyfle, the creative, digital and media training company.

We at Cyfle ar very happy to be able to introduce to you a new member of the team in Cardiff, Sara Non Jones.  Non’s first day with us as a Personal Assistant was the 15^th of April, and she will be the first point of contact for the public who get in touch with our office in Cardiff.

Non comes from Cynwyl Elfed near Carmarthen, and she comes to us following six years of working with Boom Pictures Cymru in various roles, most recently as a Children’s Programmes Researcher.

We would like to extend a very warm welcome to Non to the Cyfle team, we are all looking forward to getting to know you better over the next few months!

The aim of the training was to: Enhance a performance or exhibition, engage an audience and visitors creatively, and increase audiences and visitors from a wider spectrum through Social Media.

The Tân Dance Company (Swansea, Neath Port Talbot), Oriel Mostyn (Llandudno) and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru all benefited from Digital Media technical and Social Media skills training for company staff, as well as assistance in developing creative ideas using Digital Media. The project was funded by the Arts Council of Wales and the Creative and Cultural Sector Skills Council.

At Oriel Mostyn the following was provided under the title Use of Digital Media and Social Media in the Promotion of a Venue –

• Set-up and Run a Social Media Campaign for the Venue
• Training for Venue staff in Social and digital Media
• Use of Mobile Apps to promote a Venue
• Research, Produce and Build Digital Media into the Venue

Gwenno Angharad from Oriel Mostyn said of the experience “We have been very fortunate to have had time with experts in the scene of Digital and Social Media through Cyfle’s training and it has helped the staff of MOSTYN to be innovative in its use. Having the opportunity to discuss the potential of digital media and develop ideas, in addition to the more formal staff training in the technical areas has been most beneficial to us at this time… This is such an important training area for the arts in Wales, as there are major benefits to work within these medias.”

A training package under the title Use of Digital, Mobile & Social Media in a Performance was delivered to the team at Tân Dance, consisting of -

• Build and Run Social Media Campaign & Storytelling through Social Media (whole of project)
• Build and Run Digital Media Elements in the performance (whole of project)
• Run Digital and Live Guerrilla marketing campaigns.

The training was specifically designed around the Troy Boyz community production project.  Although the training in digital and social media was delivered specifically for the staff of Dawns Tan, there was a cast of 60 young people who benefited from participating in a digital media theatrical production, and will have been aware of the artistic and creative possibilities of such media and its effect on a performance and audience alike.

This was another exciting and successful project, so much so that the end product was part of a production that was regarded as one of the most successful of Tân Dance’s projects and productions.

This support undoubtedly enabled us to raise the profile of the project to identify and engage a wider range of beneficiaries.  In addition, we were successful in reaching a wider audience consisting not only of friends, family and supporters of TAN and the cast but also, people who had not been to the theatre before, had not attended dance performances and those who had come from outside of the catchment area…. The skills and experience gained through Cyfle will enable us to use a much wider range of social and digital media promotional tools for the benefit of future projects and events.”

Working under the title of Using Social Media to Build an Audience, Cyfle provided Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru with a comprehensive social media marketing policy and an instruction manual on how the company is able to develop its own ‘app’ for marketing purposes.

Rhys Miles Thomas, Project Manager on behalf of Cyfle said “This training project has seen Cyfle working with new partners from the arts sector in Wales, giving us the opportunity to be part of some fantastic work with enthusiastic and imaginative members of the arts community.  Both practical projects produced some wonderful work which they have been able to use for promotional purposes.

Cyfle is now looking forward to working with more arts based projects and companies in the future.”

Sue Jeffries, Cyfle's new Chief Executive

Following 23 years service with Cyfle and the last 7 of those years leading Cyfle as its Chief Executive, Iona Williams has decided to retire from the company at the end of March 2013, and is thrilled to welcome Sue Jeffries as Cyfle’s new Chief Executive.

Sue, who has been working as part of Cyfle’s team as a Strategy Development Consultant since April 2012, will take over as Chief Executive from the 1^st of April 2013.  She will also be a familiar face to many former Cyfle trainees, who may have been trained by Sue on a variety of different industry training schemes over the years.

Sue’s appointment comes at an exciting time for Cyfle, which is continually developing new and exciting training schemes for the creative media industries, as well working with new partnerships providing training at community level across Wales.

Sue started her working life as a trainee PA with ITV, she worked her way up the production grades and went freelance in 1989.  She worked as a film and television producer and director for more than sixteen years, mainly in the field of drama, children’s and light entertainment.

She has also been trained as a media Careers Adviser by Creative Skillset, and is a qualified Assessor. Sue has worked as an industry trainer and consultant, delivering training sessions and workshops for agencies such as BECTU, ITV and the BBC, as well as Cyfle.

Gareth Jones, Cyfle Chairman said “We are delighted that Sue has decided to accept the post of Chief Executive with us at Cyfle.  Her wealth of industry experience, and knowledge of both training and production will be invaluable to Cyfle and we look forward to her leading the team to a successful and productive future.”
