Final Cut Pro 7 - Editing for Non-Editors

A beginners course designed to take you through the basics of editing on Final Cut Pro 7.

This course is open to those living and/or working in ESF areas of Wales only (see Eligibility below for details)  If you are not eligible, please see details of our other FCP course which is open to all HERE.

The training offers hands on professional training, providing professionals from non-editing backgrounds with the opportunity to perform basic editing functions using FCP 7.  The training will also provide an understanding of the editing process in relation to other grades within the production process, and the importance of the narrative structure, aesthetics and audience.

Taught by Apple Certified Trainer, Neil Sinclair, trainees will benefit from using the latest software and hardware which include -

  • ten brand new 21.5 inch, 16:9 widescreen iMac's with a 3.06 GHz Intel Duo Core 2 processor and 4 GB of 1066mhz DDR3 SDRAM
  • Final Cut Studio 3 - which includes Final Cut Pro 7, Motion 4, Soundtrack Pro 3, Color 1.5, Compressor 3.5 and DVD Studio Pro 4.


Training will be based at either our Caernarfon or Cardiff training centres, depending on demand. 

IMPORTANT - We are now proud to be able to offer some courses in Aberystwyth.  The first of these will be on the 5+6 of March.

Eligibility

Please note that these courses have been made possible through Skillset Cymru, backed with £2.7m from the European Social Fund (ESF) through the Welsh Government, with the rest of the funds provided by Welsh broadcaster S4C, the trade association for independent producers in film and television in Wales, Teledwyr Annibynnol Cymru (TAC).

The overall aim of the Skills for the Digital Economy Programme is to develop and deliver industry-led, flexible, higher level skills provision which meets the needs of Creative Media employers and freelancers living and working in West Wales and the Valleys, supporting the knowledge economy and safeguarding the performance and productivity of the sector in these regions. The project also seeks to significantly increase training opportunities for New Entrants/Junior Professionals in these regions.

In light of this, beneficiaries of these courses must either live or work in the Convergence areas i.e.

Skillset Cymru Bursaries

Skillset Cymru Bursaries are grants for individuals working in the Welsh TV industry to spend on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training.

They are managed by Skillset and the funding comes from the Welsh language broadcaster S4C and the trade association Teledwyr Annibynnol Cymru (TAC).

There are two funding schemes, Skillset Cymru Freelance Bursaries and Skillset Cymru Bursaries for Editors.

Neil Sinclair

Experienced Professional

Neil has over 27 years experience as an editor, with an extensive knowledge in broadcast video post production. He has worked on programming across every aspect of broadcast, from pop videos and promos, to dramas and documentaries, using film, Avid, Quantel and Apple systems. Neil is currently Senior Editor at Welsh language broadcaster S4C.

Prior to this he worked for many years as a freelance editor for BBC Wales, ITV and Channel 4 and many independent companies.

Apple Certified Trainer

Neil qualified as an Apple Certified Trainer for Final Cut Pro in2005 (adding Motion in 2007) and has since been providing Final Cut Pro training to freelance editors and production staff in Wales for companies such as Cyfle, Skillset Cymru, Derwen and ITV Wales.

Experienced in all major HD formats and their use within Final Cut Studio and with comprehensive knowledge of transcoding and compression techniques, essential for today’s multi-format environment.
